Mole and Vole Removal

Mole and Vole Information

The Eastern Mole is the most common Mole in the Eastern United States and Connecticut and is responsible for most of the complaints concerning Mole damage in lawns.

Moles are not in the rodent family; rather they are closely related to the Shrew. They are between five to eight inches long, with short gray fur and very small eyes and ears.

Moles feed primarily on earthworms and beetle grubs. Moles are active day and night. When the ground surface becomes frozen in the winter they use very deep burrows.

Mating occurs during February and March with a single litter of three to five young being born late Spring. The young stay as a family unit for five to size months before dispersing to establish their own burrows and territories.

Moles can tunnel at a rate of 100 feet per day. The number of mounds or surface ridges seen in a yard is no indication of the number of Moles. Only two to three moles usually reside on an acre of land.

How to Get Rid of Moles and Voles:

There are three methods for removing Moles and Voles:

  1. Reduce the food source by applying grub repellent to the lawn—eliminate the food source and you will eliminate the Moles and Voles.
  2. Bait the Mole and Vole tunnels with poison Mole and Vole bait. The Moles eat the bait and expire under ground.
  3. Trap the Moles and Voles with traps—harpoon traps set at surface runway tunnels. These traps are lethal (killer traps) and should always be covered with a five gallon bucket for safety.
